President/CEO, Co-inventor
Jim is the co-inventor of the Foldscope, and has spent the last 6 years developing and field testing Foldscopes all over the world as a PhD student in PrakashLab at Stanford and now as President and CEO of Foldscope Instruments. His primary role is to lead our efforts to provide access to scientific tools across the globe.
Co-inventor
Manu is the co-inventor of the Foldscope and co-founder of Foldscope Instruments. He is an Assistant Professor of Bioengineering at Stanford University and runs a curiosity-driven lab, where the Foldscope was first invented and developed/deployed during phase 1 of the project. Manu has led the design of the Foldscope and is its most prolific beta tester. See his many posts on our community blog, Microcosmos!
Creative Director
Rebecca is the Creative Director for Foldscope Instruments, emphasizing in illustration and graphic design. She has a BFA in Biomedical Art and seeks to create inspiring, meaningful visuals that capture the many wonders to be seen in the natural world.
Director of Administration
Christine is Foldscope's Administrivia Maven: she basically does all the back office work including HR, operations and accounting. Plus, with decades of experience in IT and web development she’s a natural to edit the website and work on other IT problems. She's thrilled to be a part of such an important effort.
Director of Sales
Ken is Director of Sales for Foldscope. He was formerly head merchant for a number of retailers including Amazon.com, The Sharper Image and The Good Guys. Ken comes to the company with over 20 years of experience in worldwide sales, merchandising and supply chain management, as well as a passion for getting science into the hearts and minds of children around the world.
Design Engineer
Dan comes to Foldscope with 30 years experience developing products for industrial, government, and research. He also has degrees in computer science, mathematics, and electronics, with some course work in AI. Dan enjoys the outdoor on the water and in the field - he has been living in Vermont the past 25 years.
Education Specialist
Holly has spent the last 10 years as a science educator in both indoor and outdoor classrooms. She constantly used her background in Chemistry and Environmental Studies to seek out innovative teaching techniques to use with her students. As an avid outdoor person, Holly takes her Foldscope with her on every hike and enjoys making new discoveries in the microcosmos. Holly is excited to help get Foldscopes into the hands of teachers and students so they can experience the joy of discovery as well.
Consultant
Paola holds a Ph.D. in Cellular & Molecular Biology from Stanford University. Throughout college and graduate school, Paola was involved in a wide variety of science outreach initiatives both in Peru (her home country) and the US. She is excited to be part of the Foldscope team efforts in bringing powerful low-cost tools to communities around the world!
Product Manager
Brian is a Product Manager for Foldscope, working on new product design and mobile app development. He first developed the Foldscope App while attending Stanford University where he is currently a student - he’s thrilled to be part of the team to increase accessibility to scientific tools!
Game Designer
Sam is a game designer working on mobile game development. He's been designing games since the age of about 10 years old, and shows no signs of stopping. Coming to Foldscope with a formal education in the game development field and harboring an enduring passion for both games and the sciences, he looks forward to building rich and accessible interactive experiences.
